FOREHEAD LIFT

INTRODUCTION TO THE FOREHEAD LIFT

The concept behind the forehead or brow lift (which means the same thing) is to reposition the brows back to where they belong and relieve the hooding of the upper eyelids created by the brow. In addition, when raising the position of the brows with a brow lift, Dr. Szczerba can also weaken the corrugator muscles that create furrows between your brows sometimes called the “11’s,” the two vertical lines between your eyes at the top of your nose. Of course, a temporary way to do this is with BOTOX®. For those in need of a permanent solution, however, a surgical brow lift is the way to accomplish this.

Through the use of computer imaging, Dr. Szczerba will show you images of your forehead as they appear both before and after a forehead or brow lift procedure, to help you understand the anticipated results.

As a result of his extensive training in facial techniques both at Emory University and at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan, Dr. Szczerba’s forehead lift procedure is based upon proven techniques rather than “the newest thing” on TV and in ads. He takes no shortcuts in his procedures and strongly recommends finding a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in facial surgery because facial surgery procedures are very complex processes that require the skill of an expert plastic surgeon like Dr. Szczerba, particularly because, unlike other parts of the body, your face is there for all to see.

GOOD CANDIDATES FOR A FOREHEAD LIFT

Healthy men and women who experience bothersome brow drooping and forehead wrinkling are appropriate for the forehead lift procedure.

HOW THE FOREHEAD LIFT IS PERFORMED

A brow lift is performed under general anesthesia in accredited surgical suites in Rosemont, Hoffman Estates or Chicago. Brow lift procedures are typically performed with the use of an endoscope (surgical video device) and special instruments placed through small incisions made behind the hairline. Another technique is the temporal lift which elevates the outer or lateral brow with a small incision in the temple area. For patients who are bald or have a very receded hair line, a direct brow is offered using very precise incisions just above the brow itself to avoid visible scars.

All the techniques allow the brow and the tissue beneath it to be repositioned to correct the descent of the brow and open the eye area.

RECOVERY FROM THE FOREHEAD LIFT

Recovery from an endoscopic brow lift is generally only a few days. When your procedure is completed, your forehead may be taped and your head may be loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising. The use of a drain tube is uncommon. As with any procedure on the face, we recommend that you sleep in a sitting position for the first few days after the procedure to minimize swelling. Ice packs and Tylenol can be used for discomfort.
